Community Jam FAQ

What is Union Hall Community Jam?

Union Hall Community Jam is a space for local musicians to come together to play music they love for the Newfane community. We welcome musicians from different backgrounds and experience levels, and we work to make space for anyone who wants to participate. It’s a low-pressure chance to play in a friendly, relaxed environment.

The jam is run by Music At Union Hall, a volunteer organization associated with Newfane Anew, and formed to support and promote local music in Newfane and the surrounding communities.

What is Union Hall?

Union Hall in Newfane Vermont is a small municipal hall owned and operated by the Village of Newfane. Originally built in 1830, the building sits on the historic village green in the heart of Newfane. In the last few years, it has been upgraded with acoustic treatment, a modern PA system, and lighting equipment. It has a capacity of 125 people and is an amazing community resource for small concerts and public gatherings!

When do you play?

We rehearse every second and fourth Thursday at Union Hall.
We put on a live concert about every 6 months. We expect the next concert to be in March 2026.

What kind of music do you play?

So far, we are focusing on classic rock songs from the 60’s through the present. We try to mostly feature songs that are well-known, so that our shows are accessible to our audience. For each show, we put together a song list for players to sign up for, based on suggestions from the community. As a result of feedback from the last concert (August 2025), we are adding more acoustic or “unplugged” songs to our format. We also want to facilitate open jamming in the future, but so far we have been focused on learning classic covers - as the easiest way to get everyone playing together.

What instruments and musical roles are you looking for?

We’re looking for vocals (both lead and backup), guitars, bass, keyboards and drums. If you play something else, we’d love to try to fit you in.

We’re also interested in working with anyone who is interested to train up on our sound and lighting gear and work on the production. It’s fun!

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

We have drums, bass and guitar amps, and the PA for vocalists. Many guitarists like to bring their own amps, but you can also use ours. We have a decent keyboard that can handle piano, strings, organ, etc., sounds.

What does it cost?

We pay a modest fee to rent the hall, so we ask everyone to chip in a bit to cover the cost.

How do I get involved?
